ABOUT THE MODEL: This is a beautiful model indeed; attention to small details; clear, sharp, historically accurate imprints; battle-weary, mud-splattered finish.
According to Corgi description the model presented as one of 25 Churchill tanks of The 5th Guard Tank Army, that were the only heavy tanks in this army, during the campaign at Kursk in summer 1943.
During the WWII 301 Churchill tanks in different modification were delivered to Soviet Army by Western Allies.
On a turret side a slogan reads on Ukrainian language “For The Soviet Ukraine” – Ukraine was the second largest republic in USSR after Russia. It was totally occupied by Nazi during the WWII. The Battle of Kursk happened in an area that is near to Russian/Ukrainian border. The Battle of Prohorovka – the biggest tank battle in the history happened during The Battle of Kursk. By the end of the Battle on August 23, 1943 Soviet Army liberated first Ukrainian city, second largest city in Ukraine and fourth in USSR, Kharkow, which is also was a major and very important railroad transportation center connected western and southern directions. Soviets practically didn’t have highway roads and therefore railroads were the only reliable way for supplies delivery. First liberated in spring of 1942 after The Battle of Moscow, Soviets loose it a few months latter in devastated defeat, which allowed Germans for their swift move towards Stalingrad. In early spring of 1943 after Stalingrad Soviets made an attempt to liberate Kharkov again, but were defeated losing over 25000 dead about 9000 POW. Though most of personal were able to retreat over frozen Donez River a tremendous number of heavy equipment was lost including over 600 tanks.
The model on a picture is a prototype and doesn’t show an auxiliary machine gun that located next to a main gun. Turret turns and GUN ELEVATES.
Realistically looking tracks are made of high quality plastic, could move. Model came in attractive box with COA, Some information about tank printed on a box.
A great addition to a military models collection, could display great on O gauge railroad diorama. Same size as Solido/Varem or Tank Museum models but in my opinion better detailed, undoable better paint job with imprints (no decals, you know a headache to put them on, than they change its color with age, falling off and so for) and Corgi military models are at or below price of Varem models.
As you probably know there no other model of this battle machine in this scale range.
In Conclusion: a really good model of not really good tank.
Not suitable for children under 14 (it is not a toy), but perfect for one who over 30.
