In the mid 50’s BMW asked Albrecht Goetz, a German aristocrat with an American-based industrial design agency, (who later designed the best selling Datsun 240Z) to style a new super sport car to became their flagship and boost American market sale. With its long bonnet, pert tail and impeccable detailing it was an instant classic and became most beautiful cars of the 1950s. The high compression version of BMW’s fine all alloy V-eight – 3168cc engine produced 150 bhp. With four-speed manual transmission and longest of the axle ratios offered, it was capable of 140 mph (225 km/h) and 0-60 (96km) in the order of nine seconds. It was very expensive and took a long time to put together mostly by hand. After some development an engine produced 160 bhp, front disc brakes were installed. Production ceased in 1959 and only 253 cars was ever made. It also contributed a lot to a BMW financial problems that almost ended with a bankruptcy. By the way a bankruptcy was prevented by starting a production of a small BMW 700 in 1962 (check for a model of this car in my inventory). At any rate for 40 years on, it rates as perhaps the most collectible of all post-war BMW’s!

Model is discontinued and sold out long time ago, it is difficult to find. A superbly done model of super car! Add one to your collection now. Now collection of BMW cars is completed without 507.
