USSR - Gaz (Gorkovsky Automobilny Zavod/Gorkov (Gor’kov) Automobile Plant) started 1929 a cooperation between Ford and USSR.  The plant produced car and truck models that based on Ford models “A” and “AA”, in late 30’s Ford V8 (Gaz M1).  Using experience gained while producing Ford designed cars plant’s engineers began develop car model of their own independently of Ford.  During the WW II designers worked on all new design that entered into production in 1946 and was named “Poveda” / “Victory” an innovative for a time streamlined sedan with fastback body stile.  For many years in Soviets publications they claimed that this design was totally independed and pioneered by the Soviet designers.   Production of the Pobeda continued till 1958 when its production was totally replaced with a production of new Soviet prime mass production car “Volga” – Gaz 21.  However, a modified version named “Warszawa” was produced in Poland under the License agreement until the 1970’s).

“COLD WAR, IRON CURTAIN, EAST BLOCK!

… all these words have now disappeared from our vocabulary and belong to history.
Amongst the things that will remain from this period are the automobiles that were produced, mostly in USSR, East Germany and Czechoslovakia, but also in Poland, Romania or Yugoslavia.
Simple, rustic, sometimes with anachronous design, they were built to endure tough roads and last forever.
Paying tribute to these unforgettable pages of automobile history,
IST (pronounce it “East”) brings to your collections a whole range of accurate 1/43rd replicas of the East Block cars.”
