GDR/DDR German Democratic Republic (German: Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR)) Commonly known in English as East Germany (1949-1990)

The Sachsenring P240 was a luxury car built by the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk Horch Zwickau in East Germany between 1955 and 1959.  This large luxury car was produced in small volume.  It had a 6-cylinger four stroke engine and conventional rear wheel drive.  The same factory produced the famous small Trabant, which factory produced over 3 millions.

I believe the model represents the car that is currently on display at the August Horch Museum in Zwickau, which is an Anchor Point of ERIH [The European Route of Industrial Heritage] that is a network of the most important Industrial Heritage sites in Europe.

August Horch was a creator of A. Horch & Cie, that in 1904 moved to Zwickau, after leaving the company and being prohibited by court to use his name in the name of new companies, he renamed his Horch Automobil-Werke GmbH to Audi Automobilwerke GmbH in 1910.  In June 1932 Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer mereged to form Auto Union AG.  Horch was on the supervisory board of Auto Union.

Sachsenring and Trabant were produced at the Zwckau facilities that previously were belongs to companies mantioned above.

“COLD WAR, IRON CURTAIN, EAST BLOCK!

… all these words have now disappeared from our vocabulary and belong to history.
Amongst the things that will remain from this period are the automobiles that were produced, mostly in USSR, East Germany and Czechoslovakia, but also in Poland, Romania or Yugoslavia.
Simple, rustic, sometimes with anachronous design, they were built to endure tough roads and last forever.
Paying tribute to these unforgettable pages of automobile history,
IST (pronounce it “East”) brings to your collections a whole range of accurate 1/43rd replicas of the East Block cars.”
