MASERATI Quattroporte V
in the early 60’s Maserati had very high reputation and enjoyed growth in sale. A special car was ordered by a prince and was designed by Pietro Frua in 1962. The following year Maserati introduced its first generation of Quattroporte (Italian for four door) the car had striking resemblance to the earlier Pietro Frua’s drawing. The first generation was in production until 1966 with 230 were produced. Second Generation was in production 1974-1978 based on the Citroen SM chassis, Citroen at that time was the owner of Maserati. The car had Bertone designed body. Only 13 cars were made.
Maserati new chief Alejandro de Tomaso and his design staff launched Maserati Quattroporte III and “4porte”. A RWD V8 car was design as Italian car that will compete with such cars as Mercedes Benz 450 SEL. 1.876 Quattroporte III were produced; 1,821 of standard 4porters were manufactured and 55 Maserati – Royal, $80k specially build to the orders cars were built between 1984-1988. Production of the 3rd generation stopped in 1990. One of the produced car was used for the Italian Presidential use. In 1994 the Quattroporte IV was introduced. It was designed by Marcello Gandini (also Lamborghini Countach). When Ferrari took over Maserati in 1998 the Quattroporte Evaluzione was introduced. The IV generation production was stopped in 2000. On September 9, 2003 2004 at Frankfurt Motor Show the V generation with Pininfarina-designed body was introduced. It made its debut on the US market at the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The car has the same engine as the Coupe and Spyder but it improved to 400 hp. Due to the heavier weight compare to other cars even with some extra power it acceleration 0-60 mph is 5.2 sec. Advance design allows this large luxury sedan show exceptional stability at all times. On 2005 Frankurt Motor Show Sport GT was introduced with a price tag of $118,000 it has mechanical improvements and modifications and interior / exterior upgrades as well (20” wheels, mesh grill, etc). In January 2006 at North American International Auto Show the Executive GT version was introduced it priced at $123,000.
One Quattroporte was built for the Italian Presidential use.

As a collector I can say it is a good product indeed. Models are very high quality that is very competitive to M_inichamps 1:43 scale models; but the price is much more affordable. It is especially noticeable with sport and rally cars.
