ABOUT THE TRUCK – “AEC Mk.v Mammoth Major Platform Lorry with Wool Bale Load & Shap Memorial. Established in 1930 as Henry Long & Sons, this famous Bradford Haulage Company built up a fleet of 17 lorries by 1949 when it was nationalized becoming British Road Services Unit D158. After de-nationalization it was reformed as Henry Long operating 94 lorries. The Firm became part of a larger group in the 70's and finally ceased trading in the late 80's”.

ABOUT The Shap Memorial -- “On Saturday 7th May 1994, a large stone of pink granite was unveiled at the southern end of The Shap Summit layby, which stands 139ft above sea level. The Memorial pays tribute to the drivers and crews of vehicles that traveled this difficult route before the opening of the M6 motorway“.
