ABOUT THE TRUCK – “William Holden established his transport Company on the eve of World War II and his wartime slogan, which graced the front of his lorries often led to the Company being referred to as 'Keep Smiling' of Rawtenstall. In the late 40s Holden's transported machinery to Liverpool Docks for export to developing countries”.
ABOUT THE LEYLAND CLOCKS” -- “The idea of clocks advertising Leyland Motors on the main trunk roads was a coup for Leyland. The first clock appeared in 1930 and there are believed to have been seven altogether plus a replica in South Africa. Franco Reflex Signs of London and the mechanism by William Potts and Sons Limited, clockmakers of Leeds, designed the towers. Although some survived in preservation, the whereabouts of the others remain a mystery”. As I mentioned above clocks are made of metal.
