SOLIDO
- is French die cast model maker with a long history. Back in 70’s and 80’s it was one of the leading company in the field.
Models were considered as a highly detailed for the time. Currently available technology allowed to make models with much higher level of details compare to those of old Solido models but they still display great.
L’Age D’Or – Past Time
Collection consists of vide variety of luxury cars from pre-WW II era and in recent years some models were included in the series that originally were issued by Solido as modern (current for the time of release). Models are available in different colors. In my best knowledge car models issued in different colors have the individual catalog number and they were produced in different time.
Packaging changed over the time. All models from the series have a display case with a model secured with a screw to a plastic base. Most of the time it was packed in a carton sleeve and in early 70’s in addition have a carton box. Carton sleeve design changed many times over the production years and for some period there was no sleeve at all.
A base color also changed over the years and usually black, white of beige. The company name, along with the catalog number, series and car name could be found on a base. Usually it printed in gold or silver color but in my recollection at some period it was a sticker attached to a base.
Many models are still in production and the rest usually available for very reasonable price (if not to say at low price). In my personal opinion as a collector this series is a “Past Time” of die cast car collecting but really a good one.
Here is a good opportunity to get good models at a good price. Who knows how long this “triple good” will exist.
