Checker Marathon was produced by Checker Motors Company located in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  The company had its roots in taxi business manufacturing special built taxi cabs for largest US taxi company own by the Morris Marklin who also was the owner of the Checker Motors Company.  Marathon was design for a taxi cab usage in mid 50’s and used different engines produced by Chevrolet.  Engines were changed based on the Chevy production cycles.  Front suspension A-frames was interchangable with a 1956 Ford.    Maraton had generous interor space it was a robust car that was able to sustain practically 24/7 operation in hard “stop and go” enviroment typical for taxi business.  This car becam an iconic for American Taxi Cabs.

In 1961 company decided to enter the consumer passenger car business and produced a modified Checker Superba that was in production from 1961 to 1963.  Aslo in 1961 the company introduced the Marathon, superseding the Superba.Customs.  The Marathon had better interior, and had difference in appearance.  It had a full width egg crate grille and inboard parking lights.  Latter it was upgraded base on government mandatory safty requairements with wisible changes to bumpers.  Marathon was in production till 1982 when production was stopped when the company exited car manufacturing.

Since 2001 after Vitesse Group declared bankruptcy the model maker that produced a large part of Vitesse’s models, in particular under Skid, Onyx, 2-Wheels and some Vitesse budged models created its own brand now know as ixo-MODELS.

Ixo always produced good quality models that are competitive to famous M_inichamps brand, but with their many newest models released in 2006 they show that they are capable of producing equal or even greater quality models to its major competitor while keeping lower price (on SRP is approximately 1/3 less and on retail level even less) without sacrifice in quality.  Many of latest 2006 ixo releases just brilliant!
