This 2006 ixo release is a very good model of a very popular in 70’s car made by French car-maker. Citroen sold almost 1.9 millions of GS during its production cycle between 1970 and 1978 with almost additional 600,000 GSA produced before production stopped in 1986.
It was available in variety of styles (sedan/hatchbac/vagon/van) GS was an instant sucsess and for years was the best selling Citroen model. Interesting this model was introduced by Citroen after they have a gap in its model range for over a decade, when on one end was 2CV and Ami models and on other DS; thus the most profitable market segment in France was not covered by a Citroen model. Probably it was a major factor for Citroen going through the bankruptcy that factory declared in 1974.
GS received the prestigious title of the European Car of the Year in 1971. It was very advance car for its time and featured comfort and safety leading for its class; and had the best aerodynamics for its time.
GS is a front wheel drive car that powered by flat 4 cylinder in line engine that featured four displacements of 1015, 1129, 1220 and 1299 cc with power outputs ranged from 55 to 65 hp. It featured advanced all independent hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension that provided unmatched for the time road holding quality.
Since 2001 after Vitesse Group declared bankruptcy the model maker that produced a large part of Vitesse’s models, in particular under Skid, Onyx, 2-Wheels and some Vitesse budged models created its own brand now know as ixo-MODELS.
Ixo always produced good quality models that are competitive to famous M_inichamps brand, but with their many newest models released in 2006 they show that they are capable of producing equal or even greater quality models to its major competitor while keeping lower price (on SRP is approximately 1/3 less and on retail level even less) without sacrifice in quality. Latest 2006 ixo release of Mercedes cars just brilliant!
