Starline Models is a new name on the very competitive market of 1/43 scale diecast car models.  The company based in Germany, but models produced in China (P.R.C.)  Collection consists mostly of Italian Cars models from 60’s-70’s.   It appears that most models present cars that aren’t available from different model makers or very difficult to find.

Models are well detailed with very good paint job and nicely done wheels.  Bumpers and grill  have “chrome” finish, body “chrome” package like windows trip are painted silver (good quality), windshield wipers on most models “silver” painted.  Each model presented in different colors with individual catalog number.

In my personal opinion as a collector this line quality wise is a strong competitor to New Vitesse and IXO and compete well with Minichamps brands.

Packaging consist of display case (black plastic base with a slope front on which the car name, model and year printed in white, clear acrylic top and outer carton sleeve (metal gray in color with company logo all over it, open front, top and both ends).  Display is stackable and holds well.

In my best knowledge currently Starline Models presented on the US market only as
”gray export” – independed US dealer exported it from European dealers.

The MUNGA

The name of this car is an acronym for the German phrase that means “Multy purpose Universal Cross-country Car with All-Wheel Drive”.

DKW is the old German marque.  In 1932 it merged withy Audi, Horch and Wandered to form Auto Union.   Auto Union was situated in Saxony that after WW II become a part of German Democratic Republic (GDR).  The company was registered again in West Germany in 1949.  After producing auto parts company started to built their first vehicle a delivery van “Schnellaster F800’ in Dusseldorf.  As always company used two-stroke engine.   Production was moved to Ingolstadt.

Auto Union began production of MUNGA in October 1956, in 1957 Mercedes Benz acquired the company, and Volkswagen Group purchased it in 1964.

Production of MUNGA continued till December 1968 with 46,750 cars produced.  The MUNGA was introduced at the 38th International Motor Show at Frankfurt.  Bundeswehr adopted MUNGA. It was also purchased in large number for German Border Patrol Police. Many military forces within NATO also used MUNGA.  Around 2000 cars were delivered to the Dutch Army; many of these cars were shipped to UK in the late 1970.  South Africa and many Latin America countries also used this “go anywhere” type vehicle.

It was widely used by many different government services.   The civilian version also was available.

This well detailed model could be a great addition to any 1/43 scale car model collection but it is a must for military soft skin vehicles collection.   I don’t believe that this model is available from any other model maker.
